I considered taking a hit of theme from my location. Such a procedure worked for real estate people: “Location, location, location”.

Somehow setting the story in the old meat-packing district didn’t seem commercial with the olden days’ guns going off against the hearts of the bewildered cows or the running chickens with their heads chopped off.

Maybe some cobble-stoned street descriptions of the area could aid atmosphere, but it would be misleading in a contemporary story.

Nowadays, dun-colored streets and brown brick buildings with the occasional hit of glass didn’t seem right. It seemed as boring as an old-fashioned black and white movie. Something else was needed.
